Databases for Kids!

VPL has a number of databases that can help you with your homework. You can use them in a Library Branch and from your home through the Internet -- all you need is a VPL library card and a Personal Identification Number. Note: Cookies are used in this part of the VPL Web site. A cookie is used when you login (but is gone when you get out of the system), and cookies are stored on your computer for some databases to work.

Britannica Online For Kids
For all students who want to find out who, what, when, where, why, and how! Includes two encyclopedias, a student dictionary and thesaurus, interactive timelines and other reading materials, videos and multimedia clips, age-appropriate magazine articles, recommended links, and much more!

EBSCO Animals
Provides indexing, abstracts, and full-text articles on topics relating to animals such as nature and habitat.

Electric Library Canada Elementary
Tailored towards elementary students, this online resource enables students to search for information on various topics in resources such as magazines, books, newspapers, images, maps, and TV and radio transcripts.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia
Provides online access to over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

InfoTrac Junior
This periodical database is designed for students in junior high and elementary school with access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more. Coverage is from 2004 - current.
